I first met Eddie and Melissa when I was working as a wedding coordinator and planner for Royal Charms. Getting to know them as individuals and as a couple has been amazing. There is never a dull moment around them.
I had the privilege of being the photographer for their engagement party and now I have the honor of being the photographer who captures their 10 year anniversary as a couple!
Getting repeat clients is always great for someone in my line of work, but to make friendships that span decades is rare.
With all the Covid-19 restrictions, we had a conversation about the options available to us. We wanted to capture a specific mood around this very special location.
Shirley Chisholm State Park
On our first conversation, I knew that they wanted a fall theme shoot. I proposed some locations and they picked Shirley Chisholm State Park. Which was great because I love this location during fall. Tallgrass, open sky, with some fall flowers blossoming, you would have never thought to get this view with in Brooklyn.
So while we were taking every proper precaution to ensure everyone’s safety, the weather was not being as kind. The week of the shoot we come to find out that it will be raining. Of course, I proposed moving the shoot indoors because they both work and Melissa had already booked her makeup artist for that day. I suggested some studio locations but all of our plans revolved around this location.
It was a very tough decision but we decided to wait it out for the very last minute. On the day of we got so lucky that the rain was pushed back by a few hours, meaning we would be able to shoot during the golden hour.
Pro-Tip on how to hype up your photographer!
One of the things I have to say, I loved the fact that she looked through my portfolio to gather ideas for the color combination and outfit choice. Pro-tip to anyone looking for a photographer or if you have booked a photographer, use the images in their portfolio to show what type of poses or communicate any visual cue. They will love you for it. If you don’t find exactly what you are looking for, the best resource is Pinterest. You can also follow me on Pinterest.
Location & photoshoot
I arrived a little early and decided to walk around most of the park to find the locations I wanted to shoot in.
Once they arrived, I was super excited because of the color and the outfit choice was perfect. We got images that were amazing against the flower beds and capture the lighting and mood they were looking for as you can see in the images below, also a review from Eddie.
I hope you enjoy the photos as much as enjoyed taking them.
Happy anniversary to Eddie and Melissa!
